About
The Lower Depths: The Cinema of Shohei Imamura. The young Shōhei Imamura began his apprenticeship under Yasujirō Ozu with this tender portrait of the happily unmarried Noriko (Setsuko Hara), whose unexpected response to mounting pressure to marry quietly unsettles three generations of her family.
