About
The Lower Depths: The Cinema of Shohei Imamura. A riotous state of the union delivered in dazzling monochrome NikkatsuScope, Shōhei Imamura’s break-out film is a tale of shifting loyalties and naked ambition centred upon a young couple and their desperate attempts to navigate a sea of small-time gangsters, corrupt businessmen, and occupying soldiers in the port town of Yokosuka.
